i am; A Beautiful, Powerful, Creative Free Man.
Peyton is a Minneapolis-based artist and graffiti art education leader. He earned a
B.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has spent more than three decades as a professional artist and arts educator.
Creative from childhood, Peyton’s artistic path was transformed as a teenager after
watching the 1984 documentary Style Wars, which introduced him to graffiti art and Hip-Hop culture. This introduction profoundly impacted Peyton’s artistic vision and initiated his persistent commitment to the practice and advancement of graffiti as a fine art. During the 1990s, Peyton became one of the first artists to present graffiti art within Twin Cities galleries while also introducing it into nonprofit after-school arts programs. Building on that foundation, he developed one of Minneapolis’ first educational curricula dedicated to graffiti art, expanding opportunities for students to engage with creative lettering as an artistic discipline and a vehicle for self-expression. Supported by a Bush Foundation Fellowship (2012–2014), Peyton founded SPRAYFiNGER, an organization devoted to teaching, researching, and advancing graffiti art as a fine art and educational program.
Through his studio practice and educational work, Peyton has engaged learners and audiences of all ages throughout Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Kansas, Nevada, New York, Chicago, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and Tel Aviv, Israel.
